Driver killed in Keokuk County rollover crash identified
KEOKUK COUNTY, Iowa -- The Iowa State Patrol has released the names and ages of the people involved in a fatal crash in rural Keokuk County on Sunday. Shortly after 1 a.m., the Iowa State Patrol responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash in the 10000 block of 170th Street, just northwest of What Cheer. According to an ISP crash report, a Cadillac SRX was traveling westbound on 170th Street when it left the roadway, crashed into a power pole, and then rolled multiple times before coming to rest in a ditch. On Monday evening, the ISP released the names of the people involved in the crash. The driver of the vehicle, 20-year-old Caleb Eugine Schultz, died from his injuries at the scene. The crash report states that Schultz was not wearing a seatbelt. Schultz's three passengers were all injured in the crash. A 19-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man were transported to Mahaska Hospital, while an 18-year-old woman was transported to Keokuk Health Center. According to the crash report, none of the passengers were wearing seatbelts. An update on their conditions has not been released. The Keokuk County Sheriff's Office is assisting the ISP with the investigation into the crash. The ISP said additional information will be shared pending the investigation.
