Driver killed in Appleton accident involving detached dump truck
APPLETON, Wis (WFRV) -- The Appleton Police Department, in conjunction with the Wisconsin State Patrol, is investigating a fatal traffic crash that happened earlier this afternoon that involved a heavy-duty wrecker. Around 12 p.m., a heavy-duty wrecker exited northbound WI 441 via an off-ramp, and after entering the median, the dump truck it was towing became detached, according to a press release. The dump truck then rolled over and pinned down a vehicle that was stopped in traffic. First responders tried to render aid to the driver of the pinned vehicle; however, the driver passed away at the scene. East Calumet Street remains closed between WI 441 and Stoney Brook Drive.
