Driver identified in wrong-way car, ambulance crash in Albany

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- New York State Police have identified the driver involved in a wrong-way car and ambulance crash in Albany on Saturday. Carson Williams, 25, of Schenectady has reportedly been arrested. The crash occurred on the I-90 Exit 6 off-ramp at about 9 p.m. According to an investigation, an eastbound Colonie EMS ambulance was en route to Albany Medical Center with a patient when it was hit by a wrong-way car. The ambulance driver and onboard paramedic were reportedly taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and have since been discharged. The onboard patient did not receive any injuries and was taken to Albany Medical Center by another ambulance for their original medical emergency, according to police. "We are incredibly grateful that our personnel and our patient were not seriously injured, and we are proud of the professionalism our team demonstrated throughout the incident,” said Colonie EMS Chief Erin Kelly. Williams remains hospitalized with significant non-life-threatening injuries and has been arrested for driving while intoxicated, as well as several other vehicle and traffic law violations, State Police reported. He will be processed at a later date. Authorities said an investigation remains ongoing and additional charges are possible.
