Driver identified in Sussex collision that resulted in 2 fatalities on Route 460

In Sussex County, Virginia, Route 460 has fully reopened following a tragic multi-vehicle crash that resulted in the loss of two lives on Sunday. The crash occurred on General Mahone Highway, and Virginia State Police arrived at the scene at 1:50 p.m. According to preliminary investigations, a 2010 Ford Fusion traveling westbound crossed the center line for unknown reasons and collided with a 2015 Jeep Patriot heading eastbound. The Ford Fusion caught fire upon impact, resulting in the death of its driver. The victim and driver of the Jeep has been identified as 27-year-old Tayvon Dawson, with the passenger sustaining life-threatening injuries and being airlifted to VCU Medical facility. The identities of the Ford Fusion driver and the passenger in the Jeep have not yet been disclosed.
