A man from the North Country was taken into custody on Wednesday by law enforcement officials for allegedly causing a fatal accident while driving drunk. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on State Route 11 in Chateaugay, according to the New York State Police. The driver, 24-year-old Ryan Bordeau of Malone, was headed west on Route 11 with a passenger, 49-year-old Jennifer Hathorn of Chateaugay, when he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road. Hathorn sustained serious injuries and tragically passed away at the scene, despite efforts by first responders to revive her. Bordeau, who displayed signs of impairment and failed sobriety tests, was apprehended for further investigation. A breath test revealed his blood alcohol level to be .10%. He now faces charges of vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated. Following a court appearance, Bordeau was released pending the ongoing investigation into the crash.
