Driver ejected, killed after car crashes into parked car before rolling over, hitting tree in Winston-Salem, police say
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — One person was killed and another was seriously injured in a crash overnight Sunday, according to the Winston-Salem Police Department. At 12:25 a.m., WSPD officers responded to a crash in the 3500 block of High Point Road and found a 2008 Hyundai with rollover damage had crashed into a tree. Two people had also been ejected in the crash. Emergency medical aid was provided immediately; however, the driver, Humberto Zavala Rodriguez, 31, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, a 35-year-old female, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. A preliminary investigation revealed the Hyundai was traveling south on High Point Road when it lost control, left the roadway and collided with an unoccupied parked vehicle before rolling over and coming to rest after hitting a tree. The crash also caused the parked vehicle to crash into a house. Excessive speed is considered a factor in this crash. The crash remains under investigation. No further information is available.
