Driver dies after Woodland freeway crash into tree, CHP says
A person died Tuesday morning after a freeway crash into a tree in Woodland, the California Highway Patrol said.CHP said it got a report around 9:25 a.m. about a crash at northbound Highway 113 at East Main Street. Video from LiveCopter 3 showed an upside-down vehicle against a tree, as well as a tow truck and several CHP officers at the scene.While the information is in its early stages, CHP believes a Toyota was going northbound Hwy. 113, approaching East Main Street, when it tried passing another vehicle by going in the center median.The driver lost control and went into the southbound lanes before going off the freeway and into an embankment, CHP said. The force of the crash ejected the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt. A passenger had their seatbelt at the time and received minor injuries.Details were not released on the identity of the driver.CHP said it is not known if drugs or alcohol are factors in the crash at this time.There was a temporary closure while crews investigated and cleared the scene, but the road has since reopened.Initial CHP traffic logs listed the scene at Interstate 5, but a news release from the agency has since clarified that the crash was along Highway 113.Anyone with information is asked to call CHP at 530-702-6250.
