Driver charged with murder in fatal I-805 crash

In Chula Vista, California, a tragic and fatal multi-vehicle crash occurred on the I-805 that led to a significant shutdown of multiple lanes. The driver responsible, a 22-year-old San Diego man who was in a red 2023 Tesla Model Y, has been charged with murder by the California Highway Patrol. The incident took place around 8 p.m. on the southbound lanes of the 805 freeway, just north of Telegraph Canyon Road, when the Tesla collided with a gray 2025 BMW motorcycle, resulting in the death of the motorcycle rider, a 53-year-old Chula Vista man. The driver of the Tesla then hit a black 2012 Ram 1500 carrying six people, who suffered various injuries. Despite attempting to flee the scene, the Tesla driver was apprehended by authorities and is facing multiple felonies, including murder.
