Driver charged with murder crash that killed EMS worker in North Carolina

KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- One EMS worker was killed in the line of duty and another is injured after a crash on US 74 that's led to a murder charge, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. Around 8 a.m. on Monday, July 6, US 74 eastbound was closed in Kings Mountain due to the crash involving a Cleveland County EMS vehicle and a Dodge Challenger. NCSHP said that the Challenger hit the ambulance, causing it to overturn. The driver of the Dodge was allegedly speeding and under the influence of alcohol. Highway Patrol arrested 35-year-old Jared ONeil Logan, of Gastonia, and charged him with: Logan is being held in Gaston County jail on no bond. At the time of the crash, an EMS worker was tending to a patient in the back of the ambulance. The impact caused the paramedic, identified as 37-year-old Ashley Moore, to be ejected from the ambulance. Officials confirmed that she was killed and another worker was injured. It is unknown if the driver of the Dodge or the patient in the ambulance were injured. “Our entire Cleveland County team is grieving the loss of one of our own," said Thomas McNeilly, Emergency Medical Services Director. Moore worked as a paramedic/field training officer with Cleveland County EMS for nine years. "Our immediate priority is supporting Ashley’s family and our first responders during this tragedy. We ask the public to keep their families and our EMS staff in their prayers," stated David B. Cotton, County Manager. Cleveland County officials said Moore "exemplified the highest standards of the EMS profession and dedication to our community."
