Driver accused of causing deadly collision on Millertown Pike

A man in Knox County, Tennessee is facing charges of vehicular homicide by intoxication following a fatal crash on Millertown Pike. Knox County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to the scene to find a deceased individual in one vehicle and an injured man, later identified as Mason Shumate, outside of another vehicle. According to court records, Shumate mentioned issues with his vehicle's driver's side rod and displayed signs of intoxication such as slurred speech, watery eyes, and the smell of alcohol. Witnesses reported seeing Shumate's black truck swerve multiple times before the collision. Shumate admitted to having consumed alcohol when asked by witnesses. He has since been taken into custody, and the investigation is ongoing. The Knox County Sheriff's Office expressed their condolences to those impacted by the tragic incident.
