Driver accused in fatal Cascade County collision

Amber Marie Burnett has been charged with a felony following a tragic accident that occurred in Cascade County on August 9, 2025. The incident took place near the US Highway 89 and Hughesville Road intersection, just south of Monarch around 9:50 p.m. Montana Highway Patrol reported that Burnett, driving a Jeep Wrangler, failed to navigate a curve, causing the vehicle to roll into a creek bed. Unfortunately, the 19-year-old passenger lost his life at the scene. Burnett, who sustained undisclosed injuries, was taken to Benefis Health System. The passenger was confirmed to have been wearing a seatbelt, but it remains unknown if Burnett was. The crash was determined to be influenced by impaired driving and speed. Burnett has been charged with tampering with evidence after allegedly removing and discarding alcohol from the crash scene. She was already on probation for previous charges at the time of the incident.
