Democrats introduce comprehensive air safety bill post deadly Reagan National accident

Seven Democratic lawmakers introduced a new air safety bill aimed at improving regulations following a tragic incident in January involving a passenger plane and an Army helicopter. The proposed legislation requires the FAA to conduct safety reviews after commercial airline accidents and mandates the use of advanced aircraft-tracking technology called ADS-B. The Safe Operation of Shared Airspace Act of 2025 is designed to enhance aviation safety at various airports nationwide and the FAA. Lawmakers hope that this bill will address safety gaps highlighted by recent incidents and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
