Deadly Long Beach crash involves speeding car hitting 2 vehicles and fire hydrant
A tragic accident involving three vehicles resulted in the death of one person, who Long Beach authorities suspect may have been driving under the influence on Saturday night. The incident took place near Long Beach Boulevard and East San Antonio Drive, where officers responded to a report of a serious crash just before 7 p.m. Emergency crews found the driver of a 2005 Nissan Altima, an unidentified male, unresponsive behind the wheel of his car in the northbound lanes of Long Beach Boulevard. Despite efforts to save him, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The Long Beach Police Department shared that initial investigations indicated the Nissan driver was speeding northbound on Long Beach Boulevard when he collided with a 2018 Jeep Cherokee, causing a chain reaction that also involved a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban. The drivers of the other vehicles involved stayed at the scene and are cooperating with officials, although it is unclear if they sustained any injuries. Authorities are examining speed and impaired driving as possible causes of the crash, and the identity of the deceased driver is being withheld until his next of kin are notified. Witnesses to the collision are urged to reach out to the LBPD Collision Investigation Detail at 562-570- 7355.
