Crash ties up traffic on major Eastside Lansing roads

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — First responders were called out to the scene of a crash that slowed traffic on the east side of Lansing Thursday afternoon and will close roads for an estimated 24 hours. The crash happened near the intersection of Howard Ave. and E Grand River Ave., near US-127. 6 News on the scene saw what appeared to be a work truck that had crashed into a nearby utility pole, with moderate front-end damage. Both the Lansing Board of Water and Light and Consumers Energy maps show that there are no outages in the area. An alert sent out by Ingham County Dispatch at 6:10 p.m. says two southbound lanes of Howard Ave. will remain closed for an estimated 24 hours while BWL makes repairs. According to the MDOT Drive Map, the crash was initially reported at 3:35 p.m. and required all lanes of traffic to be blocked. Drivers are being advised to avoid the area, and the MDOT Drive Map also shows significant traffic backups nearby. Exit 78 from US-127 at Grand River Ave is also closed at this time. Police, fire, and EMS were on scene. At this time, 6 News does not know if anyone was injured or how the crash occurred. We will update this story with the latest.
