Crash shuts down westbound SR-78 near Anza-Borrego Desert State Park

BORREGO SPRINGS, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — All westbound lanes of State Route 78 were blocked near Anza-Borrego Desert State Park Saturday following a serious crash, authorities said. According to a Sig Alert from California Highway Patrol, the collision was first reported shortly after 10:15 a.m. on westbound SR-78 just east of San Felipe Road. Initial reports indicated that the crash involved a motorcycle and a white truck, though officials have not yet confirmed the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Around 11 a.m., Caltrans confirmed all lanes were blocked due to the traffic collision. Crews responded to the scene, and motorists in the area were advised to expect delays as CHP officials worked to establish one-way traffic control. CHP later classified the crash as a fatality, though the details have yet to be confirmed. It's unknown at this time how many people were involved in the crash. In an update around 1:45 p.m., CHP reported all lanes were expected to reopen around 2 p.m.
