Crash near SGV Airport closes key El Monte intersection for 15 hours
A busy intersection near San Gabriel Valley Airport in El Monte will be closed for 15 hours as police investigate a major crash, authorities said Wednesday. Motorists are being advised to avoid the intersection of Lower Azusa Road and El Monte Avenue after the collision knocked out a fire hydrant and a power pole. Citizen video obtained by KTLA showed a geyser of water shooting into the air as emergency crews responded to the scene. No additional details about the crash, including how many vehicles were involved or whether there were injuries, have been released. “The intersection is expected to remain closed for approximately 15 hours,” El Monte police said in a traffic advisory posted to Instagram at 5:20 a.m. Drivers are urged to avoid the area, use alternate routes and allow extra travel time. “We appreciate your patience and cooperation,” police said.
