A fatal collision involving three vehicles occurred on I-87 in Bethlehem on Saturday, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries, as reported by New York State Police. The crash happened close to Exit 23 around 4:45 p.m. Initial findings suggest that a 2011 Chevrolet sedan traveling at high speed in the left lane attempted to switch to the right lane, hitting a Ram pickup truck. The 2011 Chevrolet then re-entered the left lane, rear-ending a 2025 Chevrolet sedan and causing it to hit the guardrail. The driver of the 2025 Chevrolet was pronounced dead at the scene, while a passenger was taken to Albany Medical Center with injuries not deemed life-threatening. The occupants of the Ram pickup truck also sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Albany Memorial Hospital. The driver of the 2011 Chevrolet, following field sobriety tests showing no signs of impairment and negative alcohol test results, was taken for medical evaluation to Albany Medical Center. This driver was charged with several violations of vehicle and traffic laws. New York State Police are continuing their investigation into the accident, and further updates will be provided by NEWS10.
