Costco sued for $14M after California shopper 'permanently' hurt in store incident
A woman from California, Sadie Novotny, has filed a $14 million lawsuit against Costco, claiming that a liquor cabinet fell on her during a shopping trip, resulting in severe injuries. The incident, which occurred at a local Costco store on March 22, led to Novotny experiencing pain in her right shoulder, forearm, hand, fingers, and lower back. According to the lawsuit, the display cabinet that fell on her was deemed to be in a dangerous position due to its unstable placement. The lawsuit alleges negligence on Costco's part for failing to properly secure the display cabinet or provide adequate merchandise safety protocols. As a result, Novotny claims to have suffered permanent injuries, including a traumatic brain injury. The lawsuit is seeking $14.11 million in damages, including compensation for emotional distress, pain and suffering, future medical expenses, loss of future earnings, current medical costs, lost wages, and household services. Novotny attributes the accident to negligence in store management and employee supervision.
