Connecticut troopers responded to nearly 300 crashes over Memorial Day weekend
State troopers responded to nearly 300 crashes, one of them fatal, over the Memorial Day weekend, according to Connecticut State Police. State police said troopers responded to 296 motor vehicle collisions from midnight Friday to 11:59 p.m. Monday. Some 14 of those resulted in injuries, and one crash involving a motorcycle in Windsor killed a Massachusetts man. The crash occurred on Interstate 91 at around 8:30 p.m. on Monday. Juan Miguel Martinez, 26, of Northampton, Mass., was taken to Hartford Hospital and later died from his injuries, according to police. Last Memorial Day weekend, state police reported 271 crashes, including 26 with injuries, two with serious injuries and two with fatal injuries. This year, police said there were 4,017 calls for service — a dip from the 5,070 reported in 2025. There also were 810 traffic stops and 147 instances in which state police provided traffic-related services, such as debris removal or assisting with disabled or hazardous motor vehicles. Twenty people charged with operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol this Memorial Day weekend. There were 36 such arrests over the 2025 holiday weekend.
