Community in Georgetown County Supports Advocate Following Accident

September marks National Suicide Prevention Month, and a man driving along the East Coast to raise awareness is receiving tremendous support from the community in Pawleys Island, South Carolina. Clinton Baker, who has committed himself to aiding those dealing with mental health challenges, embarked on this journey in 2019 following the tragic loss of multiple family members within a short span. After a dark period where he attempted suicide, Baker is now dedicated to advocating for mental health resources and promoting open conversations about suicide. His initiative, the Suicide Prevention Ride, involves traveling long distances with his dog, Medusa, to spread awareness. While passing through Pawleys Island, Baker's cart was hit by a car, leaving him stranded. However, residents quickly rallied around him, offering food, clothing, and financial support to help him continue his important mission. The incident highlighted the community's unity and willingness to support a cause close to their hearts. Despite the setback, Baker was uplifted by the kindness he experienced in Pawleys Island, describing the people there as amazing and generous.
