Community honors victims of deadly crash
Members of the community collaborated to arrange a memorial service for four individuals from Oklahoma who tragically lost their lives in a car accident in Kansas. The victims, Jaimon Gilstrap, Kyrin Schumpert, Donald Lester, and Wayne Walls were from Oklahoma, as well as four others who perished in the accident. Ray Mahone, a basketball coach at Union Freshman Academy, shared his close relationship with 14-year-old Kyrin, whom he had known since Kyrin was in first grade. Mahone described Kyrin as a humble and respectful person who had a positive impact on everyone he met. The coach also felt a deep bond with Kyrin's father, who was also a victim of the crash. Many of Kyrin's teammates attended the vigil to find solace in the company of their loved ones. They expressed that being surrounded by friends and family helped them cope with their grief. For Xaiden Mahone, the accident came as a shock, and he emphasized the importance of unity and support in times of tragedy. He believed that coming together as a community could help everyone navigate the pain and sorrow caused by such a devastating event.
