Child seriously injured after three-car collision on I-64; roadways open after four hours

Police say a child was seriously injured and two adults were hurt following a three-car collision on I-64.Louisville Metro Police say they were called out to a collision around 3:15 p.m. on I-64 near the 22nd Street exit. Investigators found a man had pulled to the side of the road onto the shoulder after one of his wheels came off his vehicle. Police advised that the area where the driver pulled to is not a true shoulder, so the car was partially in the roadway. A car, with three occupants, stopped to help the man, pulling up behind him with flashers on. A man driving another vehicle is believed to have not seen the vehicles and crashed into the second car, which caused that car to crash into the first car, resulting in injuries. The initial driver was uninjured and the last driver received minor injuries, according to police. The two adults in the assisting vehicle were taken to the hospital with injuries police described as non-life-threatening. A 6-year-old in the assisting vehicle was taken to the hospital for immediate surgery after police say they received serious injuries in the crash. The collision caused significant traffic delays for those coming from Indiana and drivers trying to get to I-264. Police say there was an additional wreck on the Sherman Minton Bridge, which required assistance from police in Indiana. The road is now open.
