Child loses hand from firework accident in north Tulsa

Tulsa police said one child lost a hand and another has cuts after an accident with fireworks. Police responded to 46th Street North and Main just after 10 p.m. on July 1. Tulsa fire and paramedics on scene treated two children, 11 and 12. The 12-year-old lost his hand and suffered trauma to his eyes. He's being treated at a hospital in Oklahoma City. Other kids in the area said the 12-year-old held a grenade-like firework while the 11-year-old lit it and before he could throw the firework it exploded in his hand. Police said the 11-year-old had the same kind of firework in his pocket when first responders got on scene. The injuries are significant but not life threatening.
