Charges Filed Against Driver in Fatal Riverton Crash with E-Bike
A man from Salt Lake City is being charged in the tragic crash that resulted in the death of a young e-bike rider in Riverton back in August. Christian Harrison Beckner, aged 45, is facing a second-degree felony for manslaughter, along with citations for running a red light and speeding. The incident took place at 12600 South and 1300 West, where emergency responders attempted to save the life of Owen Thomsen, 21, the rider of the e-bike. Despite their efforts, Thomsen passed away shortly after being taken to the hospital. Reports indicate that Beckner was driving a Toyota Rav4 at a high speed, ran a red light, and collided with Thomsen as he crossed the intersection. Security footage confirmed that Thomsen had the right of way when entering the crosswalk. Tragically, this was not Thomsen's first experience with a life-threatening accident, as he had previously survived a serious motorcycle crash caused by another negligent driver. Thomsen's family remembers him fondly as a resilient and brave individual who faced adversity with unwavering courage and strength.
