Bridgeport man charged with DUI in Stamford crash on I-95 that left one dead, police say
STAMFORD — A Bridgeport man was arrested Sunday for driving under the influence after a head-on crash on Interstate 95 in Stamford left a person dead and another injured, state police said. Jawora Davidson, 37, was also charged with failure to maintain a proper lane in the two-vehicle wreck, according to crash and arrest reports released Friday by the Connecticut State Police. The collision took place around 12:45 a.m. near Exit 7 when Davidson lost control of a 2001 Honda Prelude while driving south and veered left into a concrete barrier, police wrote. The impact into the median barrier caused the Honda to return to the highway and come to a rest in the center lane while facing north into oncoming traffic, police said. A southbound 2019 Ford Transit van then slammed head-on into the Honda, injuring the 31-year-old Ford driver and fatally wounding the passenger of the Honda, police said. Police did not identify the individual who was fatally injured. The crash report lists their name and address as unknown. Police wrote that Davidson’s speech was slurred, his eyes were watery and bloodshot, he had poor coordination, was highly disoriented and his breath smelled of alcohol after the crash. The Bridgeport man also failed field sobriety tests and breath testing showed he had a blood alcohol concentration that was more than twice the legal limit, officials said. Online court records show Davidson remains in custody on a $100,000 bond. He was arraigned at the Superior Court in Stamford on Monday and is scheduled to reappear in court on May 12.
