Boone County deputy, child among 3 hurt after crash involving abduction suspect

Three people were hospitalized, including a deputy and a 2-month-old baby, after a chase involving an Ohio abduction suspect ended in a crash in Walton on Tuesday night. The crash unfolded on South Main Street, with Boone County Major Philip Ridgell saying the pursuit initially began shortly after 7 p.m. and involved multiple agencies. Officials said a Boone County deputy, the two-month-old child involved and the suspect were all taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Ridgell said the child was taken to Cincinnati Children's Hospital to be treated. The suspect's car, a Boone County cruiser and another car were involved in the crash. Ridgell said the case began in Xenia, Ohio, where investigators put out an attempt to locate call to Boone County deputies for the abduction suspect, who was traveling south. The Greene County Sheriff's Office identified the suspect as Brenton Howland, the father of the abducted child. The sheriff's office said the child's mother reported Howland stopped the car they were traveling in and forced her out of the car before taking off with the child inside. Investigators said the Kentucky chase initially began in Kenton County, but deputies lost track of the suspect before it reignited again near Walton.Officials said Howland sped through red lights and dodged other cars while driving about 70-80 miles per hour. Howland was taken into custody before being transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center to be treated. He has been charged with fleeing and wanton endangerment in Kenton County, with additional charges expected. Seven law enforcement agencies were involved in the investigation to locate the suspect and the child.
