Boating accident claims lives of Bay Area family and DoorDash executive
A tragic boating accident in Lake Tahoe over the weekend claimed the lives of eight individuals, including San Francisco resident and DoorDash executive Josh Pickles and his parents Terry Pickles and Paula Bozinovich of Redwood City. Other victims included Peter Bayes, Timothy O'Leary, Theresa Giullari, James Guck, and Stephen Lindsay. Initially, authorities reported six fatalities, two rescues, and two missing persons. Search efforts led by the Coast Guard were halted on Sunday but resumed with the recovery of one missing boater on Monday. The last missing person was found deceased later that day. Pickles's widow, Jordan Sugar-Carlsgaard, expressed profound grief for the loss of her husband and family members, extended gratitude to rescue teams and first responders, and acknowledged the outpouring of support. DoorDash mourned Pickles's passing and honored his contributions to the company, offering support to his family during this difficult time. The incident occurred during a sudden storm at Lake Tahoe, described by witnesses as unprecedented for the area, upending what was meant to be a celebratory gathering for Bozinovich's birthday. Tragically, the accident is considered one of the deadliest in recent Lake Tahoe history and the state of California since the devastating 2019 Conception dive boat fire.
