Beekeepers unite to save bees after accident
A truck carrying 250 million bees and their hives overturned on a road in Washington state, resulting in a swarm of upset insects. Luckily, a group of around 26 volunteer beekeepers from Whatcom County assisted in repairing the hives that were damaged in the accident. The Whatcom County Sheriff's Office reported that the bee boxes from the overturned truck were recovered, fixed, and returned to use by the afternoon. Most of the bees were expected to return to their hives by the next morning under the care of those responsible for their transport. Although the situation seemed uncertain at first with the road closure and potential bee escape, efforts were made to allow the bees to re-establish their hives and locate their queen within the following 24-48 hours. The bees, known for their resilience, were likely to survive and eventually resume their journey, as shared by Katie Buckley from the Washington State Department of Agriculture. It was advised to steer clear of the bees and the overturned truck area for the time being, as they may be upset over the incident. The roadway was anticipated to reopen on Saturday morning, with the bee owners expected to resume control of the insects. The cause of the crash remained unknown. The sheriff's office expressed gratitude to the volunteer beekeepers for their support in ensuring the successful recovery of millions of important honey bees.
