Barbie's Main Designers Die in Italian Car Accident

Mario Paglino and Gianni Grossi, famous Barbie designers known for their custom doll brand Magia2000, tragically passed away in a car accident in Italy over the weekend. The collision on the A4 Turin-Milan highway resulted from 82-year-old Egidio Ceriano driving in the wrong direction at a speed of 129 km per hour, leading to the deaths of all involved. Among those affected was bank employee Amodio Valerio Giurni, who lost his life, while his wife, Silvia Moramacro, sustained injuries and was hospitalized. Paglino and Grossi were revered in the global Barbie community for their detailed and glamorous celebrity doll creations, including iconic figures such as Madonna, Cher, Lady Gaga, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Sophia Loren. Their work was showcased in exhibitions and garnered high prices at auctions, with one doll selling for $15,000 at the National Barbie Convention in 2015. Mattel, the parent company of Barbie, paid tribute to the duo on Instagram, expressing their deep appreciation for the joy and artistry Paglino and Grossi brought to the world of Barbie. Their legacy lives on through their contributions to the doll industry and the hearts of collectors worldwide.
