Authorities to give update on fatal accident with stolen car in New Haven

Two individuals lost their lives in the accident, which occurred before 5 a.m. on Sunday near Whalley Avenue and Harrison Street. The driver, operating a 2019 Hyundai Elantra, narrowly avoided colliding with a marked New Haven police car before fleeing a traffic stop and subsequently crashing into a tree. Both the driver and a female passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. The names of those involved have not been disclosed pending notification of their next of kin. Further inquiries revealed that the Hyundai Elantra had been reported stolen. The Connecticut State Police will be conducting an investigation at the request of the New Haven Police Department and the New Haven State's Attorney's Office.
