
ATV driver killed, passenger injured in collision with SUV in Pontiac
A man from Flat Rock tragically lost his life and a woman was injured in a collision involving an all-terrain vehicle and a GMC Terrain in Pontiac, Michigan. The incident occurred around 4:55 p.m. on Sunday at the crossroads of Pennsylvania Avenue and Melrose Avenue. According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, Anthony Thomas Cowgill, 25, was riding the ATV on Pennsylvania Avenue with a 31-year-old woman from Macon, Georgia as his passenger. The ATV, a 1987 Yamaha 30, was not approved for use on roads. Simultaneously, a 37-year-old woman from Pontiac was driving the GMC north on Melrose Avenue. The ATV driver failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with the oncoming SUV. The GMC driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, thankfully did not sustain any injuries. Sheriff Michael Bouchard emphasized the importance of safety and proper equipment usage to prevent such tragic accidents. The crash is currently being investigated by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstruction Unit.
