Arbor View students discuss safety changes as suspect in deadly accident awaits trial

Six months after the tragic passing of McKenzie Scott, safety measures have been implemented outside Arbor View High School. Despite these changes, students still express some concerns when crossing the street daily. The safety enhancements at Arbor View High School have significantly improved since McKenzie Scott's unfortunate incident in May. Collaborative efforts between the City of Las Vegas and the local community have led to the installation of various safety features at the school. Some students at Arbor View shared their opinions on the improvements. These enhancements consist of pedestrian flashers, an upgraded crosswalk, additional signage, and a reduced speed limit of 35 mph near the school. While senior Anthony Confer stated that the changes offer some relief, he also acknowledges that accidents can still occur. Other students, such as senior Ethan Regadio, commented that they now feel much safer crossing the street after the recent traffic improvements. Crossing guards were also introduced this school year to assist students during their commutes. The importance of drivers being attentive was emphasized by the students. Although McKenzie Scott's life cannot be regained, efforts should be made collectively to ensure everyone's safety. The individual accused of Scott's death is anticipated to receive sentencing on Monday. Students at Arbor View expressed their desire for justice and to see the responsible party held accountable for their actions. They stressed the need for responsible behavior from drivers and pedestrians to prevent any further tragedies from occurring.
