Another crash reported near the scene of deadly I-74 accident
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) -- Just hours after a worker was killed in a construction zone crash on I-74, Illinois State Police said another crash happened near the scene of the deadly accident. Troopers with the Illinois State Police responded to the I-74 westbound interchange at I-57 southbound in Champaign just after 7 p.m. on Wednesday. After investigating, State Police learned a semi-truck hauling a dump truck hit the overpass. No one was hurt, and no lane blockage was reported, State Police added. Hours before, a pickup truck pulling a trailer hit and killed 65-year-old Steven A. Cornett of Danville. The crash happened near I-74 eastbound at milepost 179 — near the southbound exit to I-57, around 3:35 a.m. Following the crash, the Illinois Department of Transportation reminded drivers that when you see orange, slow down, give the road your undivided attention and stay alert for workers and equipment. It could save a life, IDOT said.
