Adams County crash leaves 18-year-old with ‘severe’ injuries
ADAMS COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) -- An 18-year-old is in the hospital with "severe" injuries after a single-vehicle crash Saturday night that happened near Monroe, according to the Adams County Sheriff's Office (ACSO). At approximately 7:42 p.m., police officers, firefighters and EMS responded to a crash on County Road 500 W near State Road 124. Authorities had to extricate the driver, identified by the ACSO as 18-year-old Kylee C. Duncan, from the vehicle. According to a preliminary investigation at the scene, Duncan was heading south on County Road 500 West when her vehicle drifted off the roadway onto the gravel berm lining both sides of the road. When Duncan tried to return to the road, she overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle, according to the ACSO. The vehicle skidded across the road, exited the road again and went into the grassy ditch, which resulted in the vehicle crashing into a cement field marker post. EMS first transported Duncan to a local hospital for treatment and then to a Fort Wayne hospital by air for further treatment. The ACSO noted "unsafe speed" is also believed to be a factor in the crash.
