Accident closes US-31 in Holland Twp; 2 hurt

In Holland Township, Michigan, early Thursday morning, a speeding vehicle disregarded a red light, causing a collision with a semi-truck on northbound US-31, resulting in injuries to both drivers and the closure of a portion of the road for several hours. The incident occurred at around 4:20 a.m. Initially, the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office received a report of a fight involving multiple individuals and a silver Hyundai Elantra at the intersection of Felch Street and Beeline Road. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies found that the Hyundai had fled, and those present were uncooperative. Moments later, an officer discovered a crash involving the Hyundai and a semi-truck carrying rock loads at US-31 and Felch. The 24-year-old Holland man driving the Hyundai sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital in Grand Rapids, while the 60-year-old semi-truck driver was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Both vehicles suffered extensive damage. US-31 was closed for several hours following the accident and reopened around 10:20 a.m. as per the Michigan Department of Transportation. Authorities are conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident.
