A life cut short: Family reflects on daughter killed in crash
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — The family of Kiercy Hickson is speaking out after their daughter was killed by a wrong-way driver. "She was so beautiful. Her smile, her eyes. It's just something you can never forget," said Regina Hickson, Kiercy's mom. 20-year-old Kiercy Hickson is gone but not forgotten. Her family describes her as deeply rooted in faith, selfless, and inspiring. "She never met a stranger," said Regina. "She would talk to anyone. We've had so many friends reach out. She was trying to finish cosmetology school. She planned to move to Dallas. She grew up a country girl, but she wanted to be in the city." A goal that was cut short after a wrong-way driver, allegedly driving under the influence, hit her car head-on, killing Kiercy and three others in the car. The last time her mom talked to her was that day. "It was her only day off, and they were just going to go hang out with friends and have fun, and less than 12 hours later, she was gone," said Regina. Her mom describes Kiercy as her best friend. "There are times that we would just sit and talk," said Regina. "She called me daily. Just tell me about her day, what she had planned to do." Kiercy's dad was her helping hand. "You know, just her calling 'hey, Dad, can you fix this?' She'd say, ' Dad, you can fix anything," said Wesley Hickson, Kiercy's dad. Her bother describing her as his forever dance partner. "The random dancing through the house. Oh, man, the goofball moments, the singing. Constant bullying each other, and that's probably going to be the thing I miss the most with her," said Thomas Casey, Kiercy's brother. Among those memories, Kiercy's family treasures her faith the most. Reading the last few journal entries she left behind. "She said, Heavenly Father, tonight I come before you with gratitude. Thank you, Lord, for another day. Thank you for the moments of joy, the lessons learned, and the strength you give me to face challenges," said Regina as she read Kiercy's journal. It's a prayer her family will now also lean on. "I'm thankful that she was truly living her life, and as much as we wanted her home all the time, we wanted more for her to experience life like the young 20-year-old that she was," said Regina. "We always figured we just have so much more time." Kiercy will be laid to rest on Thursday. A GoFundMe has been set up for the family.
