5-year-old killed in heavy machinery-involved accident in Ohio, father injured: deputies
CANTON, Ohio (WKRC) - A child was killed in a heavy machinery-involved accident in Ohio. A 5-year-old child died Sunday after being struck by a compact earth-moving machine at a residence in Plain Township, according to the Stark County Sheriff's Office. Deputies responded to Mercy Hospital at approximately 3:40 p.m. after receiving a report of an injured child, authorities said. Preliminary information indicates the child was inside a residence in the 2400 block of Bur Oak Street NE while the mother remained inside the home and the father operated a compact earth-moving machine in the backyard. Investigators said the child went outside at some point. While backing up the machine, the father discovered the child on the ground with severe injuries. The father transported the child to Mercy Hospital, where the child was later pronounced dead. Authorities said the father suffered injuries after jumping from the machine and was also treated at Mercy Hospital. The incident remains under investigation by the Stark County Sheriff's Office and the Stark County Coroner's Office.
