4 taken to hospital after airport shuttle bus flips in Raleigh crash near Glenwood Avenue at I-540

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) -- At least four people were injured -- two critically -- in an airport parking shuttle bus crash near RDU International Airport in northwest Raleigh Saturday afternoon at U.S. 70/Glenwood Avenue near Interstate 540, officials said. The crash involving a Fast Park shuttle bus and a white car was reported just after 3 p.m. in the 9400 block of Glenwood Avenue near Lumley Road near the I-540 interchange, according to a Raleigh Police Department news release. Three adults and a child were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment after they were injured in the crash, Raleigh police said. Two adults suffered life-threatening injuries. The crash near the northern end of RDU Airport involved an airport shuttle bus and another vehicle, Raleigh police said. The bus was flipped onto its side during the crash, according to police. All lanes are closed on Lumley Road at Glenwood Avenue because of the crash, the NCDOT reported. All lanes are also closed on the I-540 ramp to U.S. 70, according to the NCDOT. Fast Park is located off Westgate Road, just blocks from the crash scene. The Raleigh Fire Department said they have crews at the scene, which is just north of the Angus Barn. Images from an NCDOT camera at I-540 showed several emergency vehicles, including two fire engines, blocking an access road at the crash scene. "The cause of the crash has not yet been determined and remains an ongoing investigation," Raleigh police said in the news release.
