30-year-old Olympic rugby player dies in road accident after winning silver medal

Josaia Raisuqe, the Fijian athlete who achieved a silver medal at the 2024 Olympic Games, has tragically passed away at the age of 30. His club, Castres Olympique in France, confirmed the heartbreaking news on Thursday. The team expressed their deep sadness and grief over his sudden death in a road accident. Raisuqe, a beloved teammate known for his positive presence both on and off the field, had been playing as a winger for Castres since 2021. The entire club community is in mourning, and their upcoming match has been postponed in light of this devastating loss. Club president Pierre-Yves Revol described Raisuqe as a radiant and integral member of both the team and the Fijian community within the club. Raisuqe was also part of the Fijian squad that won silver at the Olympics in the seven-a-side format, contributing to their journey with victories over Ireland and Australia before ultimately coming second to France in the final.
