25-year-old man killed in deadly tractor trailer-crash in Caroline

CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 25-year-old man is dead after a two-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 95 in Caroline County on Wednesday morning. On Wednesday, May 20, Virginia State Police (VSP) responded to a deadly two-vehicle crash with a tractor-trailer on I-95 southbound near the Route 639 exit. Police have now identified 25-year-old Xavion Jamal Holmes Mahoney of Charlotte, North Carolina, as the driver of a 2018 Freightliner Cascadia that rear-ended a 2007 Freightliner tractor-trailer. Mahoney was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died. The VSP Motor Carrier Safety Team personnel and the VSP Division I Crash Reconstruction Team responded to assist with the investigation. All southbound lanes on I-95 were temporarily closed as troopers worked to investigate the crash and crews cleared the scene. Police stated that all lanes have been reopened. The crash is still under investigation.
