2 taken to hospital after fiery crash between highway patrol vehicle, truck in Thomasville, troopers say

THOMASVILLE, N.C. (WGHP) -- A trooper and driver were both taken to the hospital after a fiery crash in Thomasville on Friday, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. At 3:35 p.m., a rooper was going south on US 29 in Davidson County when he clocked a speeding driver going north. The trooper turned around with his lights and siren active to pursue the speeding vehicle. At the same time, a Ford pickup truck was trying to cross US 29 from Old US 29, failed to yield to the lights and siren and hit the trooper going north. The truck came to rest in the median, while the trooper's car went off to the right and briefly caught on fire. The trooper was taken to a hospital and released. The driver of the truck was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The crash is still being investigated, and charges could be forthcoming, the NCSHP says.
