2 people stranded in mountains after vehicle in rollover crash falls 250 ft. down cliff

Two people were trapped after a vehicle slid off a road near Wilkeson and fell 250 feet late Thursday night, according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Office (PCSO). After one person used an iPhone SOS call shortly after 10:00 p.m., PCSO search and rescue teams responded to the crash site near T. Rex Falls , 12 miles from Wilkeson in the mountains. As rescuers approached in an off-road vehicle, they found two people walking down the road who said their vehicle had a rollover collision near the top of a mountain. The people told crews that the driver and another passenger were still trapped inside the vehicle, which was found 250 feet down a cliff with the two people inside. The PCSO said weather conditions have been very cold, wet, and foggy. The location is also challenging to reach, even with specialized vehicles, the PCSO said. The PSCO requested help from rope technicians, volunteer search and rescue teams, and "potential military aviation assets." Crews, including firefighters and a doctor, have been working to stabilize the victims before transporting them to a hospital. The PCSO said both victims were airlifted to local hospitals as crews cleared the scene. This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
