2 killed in rural Dakota County crash

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KCAU) — On Monday morning, two people were killed in a crash in rural Dakota County. According to the Dakota County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened just before 7:30 a.m. in the area of 210th Street and Highway 77, which is between Homer and Dakota City. Officials said that they were told by witnesses that a Chevy Malibu had been driving north in the southbound lanes of Highway 77 when the crash happened. The Malibu hit a Ford Edge head on. The driver of the Malibu, a 33-year-old from South Sioux City, was pronounced dead when officials arrived. The driver of the Edge, a 46-year-old woman from South Sioux City, was life-flighted to a local hospital where she died of her injuries. Officials said that more details will be released at a later date. The Dakota County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Nebraska state Patrol, Home Volunteer Rescue, Dakota City Volunteer Rescue, and South Sioux City Rescue.
