2 killed, 1 critical after Thruway accident in Ulster County
Two Elizaville residents passed away and a third person is in critical condition after a Thruway collision in Ulster County. The New York State Police reported that the crash took place in the northbound lanes near Exits 18 and 19. A 2007 Nissan driving southbound attempted to make a U-turn to reach the northbound lanes and crashed into a 2023 Kia around 2 p.m. All lanes were initially closed but have since reopened. Esther Oliveras, 81, was the passenger in the Nissan and died at the scene, while the driver, Guillermo Olivera, 84, passed away at Westchester Medical Center. The driver of the Kia, identified as Amiah Desiah Lea Corp from Schenectady, is in critical condition at the same medical center. The State Police are investigating the incident and urge anyone with information to contact them at (845) 344-5300.
