2 fatalities in Madera County crash involving ejected SUV occupants
Two individuals have lost their lives and three others have sustained serious injuries in a tragic traffic accident involving an SUV and a semi-truck in Madera County. The incident occurred on Wednesday at the junction of Road 23 and Avenue 13, as per the California Highway Patrol. Reportedly, a white Honda CR-V with five passengers was heading west on Avenue 13 when it reached a stop sign at the intersection, while a Freightliner semi-truck carrying sand was traveling northbound on Road 23, which had the right of way. A CHP Officer mentioned that the SUV failed to stop at the sign and collided with the big rig, leading to a devastating broadside impact. Unfortunately, two occupants of the CR-V lost their lives at the scene, whereas the rest were taken to nearby hospitals with severe injuries. It was noted that the driver of the semi-truck emerged unharmed from the accident. Officer Moreno emphasized the importance of wearing seat belts, as four out of the five occupants in the SUV were not wearing them during the collision. At present, authorities are yet to determine if alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash, and the investigation is ongoing.
