2 drivers dead after head-on collision on Hwy 46: CHP
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Two drivers are dead following a head-on collision on Highway 46 early Saturday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol. CHP Buttonwillow Area officers responded to a call received by the Bakersfield Communications Center of the crash on Highway 46, east of Kurt Road, at around 2:30 a.m. According to investigators, a 20-year-old man from Wasco was driving a 2011 Toyota Corolla eastbound on Highway 46, east of Kurt Road. Stanley Carbajal, 36, of Paso Robles, was driving a 2024 Toyota Prius westbound on Highway 46, east of Kurt Road, according to officials. The two were approaching each other. The driver of the Corolla traveled over the painted center dividing lines of Highway 46 into the westbound lane and direct into the Prius, CHP said. Reasons are still being investigated. The Corolla crashed into Carbajal’s vehicle head-on, officials said. Both Carbajal and the other driver were pronounced dead at the scene, according to CHP. Alcohol and/or drug use will be determined following investigation. The driver of the Corolla has not been identified.
