2 dead in highway crash in Anderson Co.
ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) - Two people are dead due to a head-on crash early Wednesday morning in Anderson County. The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Highway 29 near Cox Road in Anderson. Investigators responded when Anderson County Dispatch received an automatic crash notification from a cell phone. First responders arrived to find that both drivers had passed away at the scene. The Anderson County Coroner's Office has identified the drivers as 57-year-old Mikhail Cherkasov, of Honea Path and 24-year-old Dennis Linvel Vollrath, of Liberty. Troopers said Vollrath was operating a Toyota SUV traveling north on US 29 when the car crossed the center line and hit a Honda, operated by Cherkasov, traveling south head-on. Their deaths have been ruled accidental, according to the coroner. The crash remains under investigation by the SC Highway Patrol.
