2 dead after crash on I-24 in Smyrna
RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Two people were killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 24 in Smyrna early Thursday morning. The crash happened in the westbound lanes near mile marker 67 between Almaville Road and Sam Ridley Parkway around 12:45 a.m. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado hit the back of a semi-truck and then went underneath that vehicle. The victims were identified as a 72-year-old man from Kentucky and a 58-year-old woman from Tennessee. The 57-year-old driver of the semi was not injured. Diesel fuel spilled onto the roadway after the crash so a HAZMAT team responded to the scene for cleanup. The roadway fully reopened to traffic around 6 a.m. No additional information was immediately released.
