MOULTRIE COUNTY -- A 19-year-old college baseball player was pronounced dead at the scene of a head-on collision in Moultrie County Thursday afternoon. Moultrie County Coroner Lynn Reed and Illinois State Police told WCIA that a head-on crash took place on Illinois Route 121 near County Road 1600 East at 12:33 p.m. in Moultrie County between Sullivan and Mattoon. State Police Troop 7 units responded to the scene for the report of deadly crash involving two vehicles. They said he loved the game of baseball and was a great teammate for the legion, at Sullivan High School and at Greenville University. "The Christian County American Legion baseball program would like to extend our sincerest condolences to Jason, Melissa, and all of the Crowe family after the passing of their beloved son, Cameron Crowe," the team said. "In our one year of having Cameron as a teammate, we remember that he was a feisty competitor who never backed down from a challenge." Crowe was a freshman when he played on the baseball team at Greenville in 2026, according to the school's athletic website. Police said this remains an active investigation and that there is no further information available at this time.
