18 individuals harmed in DC people mover accident at Dulles Airport

A mobile lounge at Washington Dulles International Airport ran into a dock on Monday afternoon, causing 18 individuals to be taken to the hospital. According to Crystal Nosal from the Metro Washington Airports Authority (MWAA), the incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. as the lounge was transporting passengers to Concourse D and collided with the dock upon arrival. Passengers were assisted in exiting the lounge by stairs and were examined by MWAA fire and rescue staff. 18 individuals were subsequently transported to a nearby hospital with injuries that Nosal indicated are not life-threatening. Washington Dulles International Airport, managed by MWAA, is reported to be fully operational. The airport encompasses Loudoun and Fairfax counties in Virginia and is equipped with 19 mobile lounges capable of accommodating up to 102 passengers, with 71 seated. These lounges, as revealed on the airport's website, measure 54 feet in length, 16 feet in width, 17.5 feet in height, and weigh 76,500 pounds each.
